Retrograde
Planets
In astrology, a planet is described as retrograde when it appears to move backward in the sky from our perspective on Earth. Of course, the planet itself doesn’t literally reverse its orbit — this is an optical illusion caused by the relative motion between Earth and the other planet.
When there are more than three retrograde planets in the natal chart, the individual may struggle to find their place and role in the world at a young age. This can lead to feelings of isolation, lack of self-confidence, and inner blocks, often manifesting as obstacles in the areas of life ruled by those planets.
Retrograde planets represent qualities and abilities that cannot be fully expressed in early life. However, they intensify the need for self-knowledge and open the individual to exploring the unconscious.
Essentially, retrograde means that the planet’s energy is somewhat blocked in its outward expression, making it harder to manifest the life themes connected to it. Yet this is not a punishment: rather, it is a path to deeper self-understanding and inner strength. By working through the challenges, we gradually learn to integrate and cultivate these traits from within—and ultimately express them more consciously and authentically in the outer world.
